new album blog ting

So with just 7 days until the new Version Big-Fi album “Meets” hits the interweb I thought I’d write something to help promote it … maybe … probably not.

I must have started on this album about 2 years ago … in fact one of the tracks Marcia Griffins – Feel Like Jumping was originally destined to be on the very first Big-Fi album Everything But but was omitted just before its release as I wasn’t happy with the feel & mix.

Fast forward 3 years and about 20 demo tracks later, I was chatting with long time friend Gary Taylor and the outcome was that he would play bass on a couple of new Big-Fi tracks. To say I was “over the moon” with the results would be an understatement and it was decided that we’d work together on even more.

It then hit me … send him some of the demo tracks that I had of the Meets album … this then turned into 17 tracks with Gary adding bits of Guitar and Keyboards to them, 4 months later and many a version reworked … many from scratch we had the album whittled down to 10 final tracks.

The “theme” of the album was to remake/cover/remix/version a bunch of classic reggae/dub tracks in our own little way … which usually means making stuff sound as big as possible! … it features vocals from Dillinger, General Echo, Marcia Griffiths, Gregory Isaacs Dennis Brown, Althea sans Donna, Clint Eastwood & General Saint, Reggae Crusaders, Lizzy & Anthony Red Rose…

aah but why are King Tubby & Joe Gibbs on the cover? … to be perfectly honest I  couldn’t find a picture of The Reggae Crusaders or Lizzy so decided to add the 2 masters as they, along with Lee Scratch Perry, Manzie Swaby, Clement ‘Coxsone’ Dodd, Lloyd Campbell, Niney The Observer, Henry Junjo Lawes, Duke Reid, provided the dubs, riddims, production and inspiration for the songs.

That’s enough name dropping and if you managed to get this far big-ups! … out next monday 18th October on Dubtronic Records the first 100 downloads will be 320k quality.

Join Version Big-Fi on facebook to get first dibs on those 100 320k downloads.
